Description

Sid has sold at Gallery on Dowling, and will be off to a new home after the 6th November, but if you would like your own squiddish hat, please contact me.

Sid is a very helpful squid, who likes to hang out on top of humans. “Helpful?” you may ask? Yes, Sid can keep small items safe for his wearer in his tentacles- each of which is a hidden pocket, while his body can hold larger items, like a change of underclothes, a light jumper or spare T shirt.

His colouration is burgundy and blue, and he consists of some absolutely exquisite yarns. His body is made from beautifully soft, pure Australian wool- “Bloom”, from the Bendigo wool mills- in two colourways. One colourway is burgundy, variegated with blue-grey-mauve, and the other is the reverse- blue-grey-mauve variegated with burgundy. The underside of Sid’s body is mainly burgundy, while the topside is mainly blue.

Like most squid, Sid has eight tentacles and two arms. His striped and shaded, swirling, twisting tentacles and arms have vintage “Cleckheaton”, pure Australian wool yarn on the undersides, with suckers made from assorted fluffy vintage mohair-mix yarns in shades of light to pale blue. The tentacles have suckers all the way along (as for most squid), while the arms are a little narrower in width, and only have suckers at their tips, where they widen out (again, as for most squid).

His boggly eyeballs are fuzzy angora-mix yarn plied with tiny sequins to give that extra, undersea sparkle, or perhaps a mischievous glint. The pupils of his eyes are made of black, vintage wool plied with fine, rainbow lurex to give an extra glint.

His eyeballs are padded with washable synthetic polyfill (as used in cushions and pillows).

Sid the Squid is best suited to snuggle around and enliven a medium sized noggin of up to 57cm/22.5”.

Sid is a unique piece of wearable Art headgear, crocheted by myself, using high quality, durable yarns. No patterns were harmed, or even used at all, in his making. He should give his owner many, many years of warm wear, providing he is cared for appropriately.

Sid doesn’t mind a bath, but no hot water, please! Handwash and rinse him gently in lukewarm water, then roll him in a towel to gently squeeze out excess moisture, and dry him flat. Do not bleach, machine wash or tumble dry him.

Shipping-
I use Australia Post and usually send out parcels within 24 hours, except on weekends and public holidays, when the local post office is closed. Shipping to the US/UK should take about ten days, but unfortunately shipping delays can happen sometimes. If that’s the case, let me know and I can follow up the parcel’s progress from this end and keep buyers informed.

Most parcels will ship with tracking, where destinations allow for tracking (Aus, USA, UK and many others all do).

Australians- at present I’m posting all hats by express post to ensure they arrive quickly and can be tracked.

If you would like your own squid hat, perhaps in a different colour scheme or size, my contact details are here, or there is a contact form below.

Sid is also listed on my etsy shop.

Thanks for looking!
