Description
Rose Petals has sold on exhbition at Gallery on Dowling, and will be off to a new home after 6th December. But if you would like your own beautiful long tailed stocking cap, please contact me.
Never lose your scarf again with this soft and cute long tailed stocking cap! Delicate rose pinks, barely-russets and pastel teals are accented by their stronger versions- watermelon and bubblegum, forest green and rust, in this fun and functional piece of wearable art for your head.
The hat, with its long, swishing tail- perfect to wrap around the wearer’s neck for extra warmth- and subtle, attractive colours should be a welcome winter wardrobe addition! The long, spheroided tail measures approximately 137cm/54” overall (that includes the luxuriantly thick, fluffy tassel of 16cm/6.5” with its 7.5cm/3” long, handtwisted cord).
The yarn in the lower band is called ‘Cassowary’, and it is very, very silky-soft, snuggly and feathery. Personally, I think that’s a bit of a misnomer, as cassowaries are nicknamed ‘murder birds’, but anyhow… that lower band is so, so, so soft and lovely that it needs a better name! It is palest pink, variegated with an unusual russet-rust-red-taupe colour, and lovely rich teals. This is the yarn that ties the whole colour scheme together.
Overall, the stocking cap features a broad variety of crochet stitches and techniques, from complex entarsia/tapestry crochet, and surface crochet, to 3D crochet cables, bobbles, puff and berry stitches. There are also some little touches of glitz in the crown bobbles, but mostly, this hat is quietly understated in colour saturation and vibrancy compared to most of my hats.
Tapestry crochet techniques are used throughout, especially in the crown section, with its forest green silky wool mix outlined petal motif which is ‘studded’ with feature bobbles. The crown is mainly pale, rosy pink Capricorn yarn at the top, and a vintage wool/mohair mix, variegated light russet and pink yarn. Both these yarns are a little fluffy, both are soft and warm. They contrast nicely in texture with the silky, slightly shiny green outline yarn.
The crown is edged at the bottom with a row of matching silky-soft pink variegated yarn. This lower row has a few less stitches and helps to keep the hat firmly in place.
Rose Petals is medium-to-large in size, best suited to snuggle around and enliven a noggin of up to 59cm/23.5”.
This hat is unique. It was designed and crocheted by myself. No patterns were harmed, or even used in its making. It should give its owner years of warm wear, provided it is washed carefully.
It is made from an eclectic mix of yarns- the majority is beautifully soft Australian wool, mohair and wool-mixes. There are also synthetics- feathers, eyelash and acrylic to name most. Some of the yarns are vintage (including the two main crown yarns) from my yarn stash- old new stock, carefully stored, never used until now.
Please handwash and rinse Rose Petals in lukewarm water, then roll in a towel to gently squeeze out excess moisture, and dry flat. Do not machine wash, bleach or tumble dry.
Shipping-
I use Australia Post and usually send out parcels within 24 hours, except on weekends and public holidays, when the post office is closed. Shipping to the US/UK should take about ten days, but unfortunately shipping delays can happen sometimes. If that’s the case, let me know and I can follow up the parcel’s progress from this end and keep buyers informed.
Most parcels will ship with tracking, where destinations allow for tracking (Aus, USA, UK and many others all do).
Australians- at present I’m posting all hats by express post to ensure they arrive quickly and can be tracked.
This hat is also listed on my etsy shop here.
If you like this hat, but need a different size or colour scheme, please contact me here, or there is a contact form below.
