Description
Mauve and baby pink, lavender and golden ochre, deep chocolate and purple bounce against each other and muted green, all accented with touches of gold, silver and sparkly glitz. Fancy entarsia (tapestry or mosaic crochet) zigzag motifs are enriched with high relief, metallic gold bobbles in the crown. The complex, soft colours of the Australian bush orchids that bloom in the forest here feature in this warm, glossy scart.
This unique piece of wearable art headgear is fabulously coloured, fun and functional. It can be worn as a hat, with or without the scarf-ends knotted or wrapped around the wearer’s neck, or it can be turned upside-down with the scarf ends knotted together, when it transforms into a handy tote bag. Out shopping and forgot your bag? The Orchid Tones scart turns into a useful tote in seconds.
The yarns in this scart are exquisite- the main yarns in the crown and scarf ends are the very softest, silky Australian merino mixed with a little synthetic for sheen. They were purchased direct from one of our reknowned wool mills- you won’t see these yarns on the shelf of every chain store! Similarly, the accent yarns are from my vintage yarn collection. I estimate that this scart is about 90 percent pure, non-scratchy wool.
The photos just don’t do justice to the richness and harmony of the colours, the sheen of the entire piece or the little sparkling accents.
Variegated feathers yarn forms a fuzzy band around the hat’s lower crown section. The entire piece is edged with a row of pink feathers yarn, then a final row of matching eyelash yarn crocheted together with a pink and purple sparkly designer yarn..
From each of the crown’s two corners, luxuriant tassels of 18cm/7” dance from hand twisted cords of 7cm/3”.
The scarf ends measure 76cm/30” in length. Their soft, multi-coloured fringes measure approximately 18cm/7”.
Orchid Tones is sized to snuggle around most craniums- up to around 61cm/23.5”. It contains mostly woollen yarns, so please treat it like any woollen garment, and handwash and rinse it gently in lukewarm water, using woolwash if possible. Then roll in a towel to gently squeeze out excess moisture, and dry flat. Do not bleach, machine wash or tumble dry.
Shipping- I use Australia Post and usually send out parcels within 24 hours, except on public holidays and weekends (because the post office is closed then). Shipping to the US/UK should take about a week to ten days, but unfortunately shipping delays can happen sometimes. If that’s the case, let me know and I can follow up the parcel’s progress from this end and keep buyers informed.
Tracking- all parcels have a tracking number so buyers can follow their items’ progress.
Australians- at present I’m sending all parcels within Australia by Express post to make sure they arrive as quickly and reliably as possible.
