Dear Daisy hand made crochet tam

Description

This tam (short for ‘tam o’shanter’) is inspired by one of the favourite flowers in my garden. Paper daisies, a.k.a. ‘everlasting daisies’ are an Australian native plant, the blooms of which are amazingly durable, with exotic, papyraceous textures.

Like its eponymous blossom, the Dear Daisy hat design features pointed petals against a darker background. Three-dimensional surface crochet, puff stitches and bobbles combine with intricate entarsia/tapestry crochet techniques in this unique piece of wearable Art.

The grey-brown and cream yarns which form most of the crown are actually ‘black’ and ‘white’ pure Australian merino wool. The pale-russet yarn in the secondary petal-shapes is a majority-merino/synthetic mix. These beautiful yarns make the tam soft, light, warm and wonderfully enduring.

Fluffy, fuzzy feathers yarn features in a broad band around the base of the tam, which is edged with matching fluffy cream-and-brown designer yarn.

Tams are great for those ‘less-than-good’ hair days- the wearer can tuck their hair up completely inside the tam, allow a few tresses to escape, tilt the whole thing back, or tip it fetchingly to one side- they are quick and easy to pull on and compliment most face shapes.

This tam is sized to cuddle and enliven a cranium of between about 55cm/21.5” to 60cm/23”.

It is a one-of-a kind, and was designed and robustly crocheted by myself. No patterns were harmed, let alone used in its making.

Please handwash and rinse it in lukewarm water, then roll in a towel to gently squeeze out excess moisture, and dry flat. Do not machine wash or tumble dry it. With appropriate care, Dear Daisy should last give its owner many, many years of enjoyable wear.

We use Australia Post and usually send out parcels within 24 hours, except on weekends, because the local post office is closed Saturday and Sunday. Shipping to the US/UK should take about a week to ten days, but unfortunately shipping delays can happen sometimes. If that’s the case, let me know and I can follow up the parcel’s progress from this end and keep buyers informed.
